Right now, I am working on a book about F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sheilah Graham, and Hollywood in the 1930s. It will also contain a lot of drinking, powder blue suits, dances at the Cocoanut Grove, betrayal, gossip columns, crazy ladies, secret Jews, film lot moguls, and Dorothy Parker quips at funerals. If the world is still around then, it should be out from Random House around 2014. So let's hope the Mayans were wrong.

This week I have to plan my summer voyage (read: ESCAPE), and I’ve narrowed it down to a few places, but the frontrunner right now is Gaudi’s giant layer cake of a city. I have a huge crush on it. I like eating dinner after 10, and I prefer that dinner to be green olives and mussels. So yes, anyone have any good (and affordable) suggestions for places to stay in Catalan country? Don’t make me turn to Arthur Frommer.
