Currently: I am working on a book about F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sheilah Graham, and Hollywood in the 1930s. It will also contain a lot of drinking, powder blue suits, dances at the Cocoanut Grove, gossip columns, crazy ladies, secret Jews, film lot moguls, and Dorothy Parker quips at funerals. If the world is still around then, it should be out from Random House around 2014. So let's hope the Mayans were wrong.

i CANNOT get enough of brooklyn band yeasayer. their daytrotter session (when bands pass through an austere recording cabin in illinois) was spot on; this is “sunrise” from that set. a friend told me this is “hippie music for 2007,” which makes no sense, chronologically. i just like it because you can dance and relax to it equally. you rarely find that sort of balance.
